Baby Steps Congratulations

Well two more friends had babies in the last month and this was one of the congratulations cards I made for their arrival. I love the a la carte stamp range and who doesn't love elephants??? Following the flip/swing card I made last month I used the same template to whip up this card.......

What you can't see from my photo is that I re-stamped the Elephant ears on scrap white card stock and made them into little 3D ears that can flap to give it even more dimension. The reverse of the elephant was done similar to the previous card with a balloon aqua painted.

Crazy For Birthday Cupcakes!

We bucked the trend recently and did a birthday card class - it was very pink - although we did do the centre flip/swing card in bashful blue as well as pink just for something different! The DSP is retired (sorry), but I was cleaning up and found half a pack and thought that the colours matched what I was planning to do perfectly. I do love the Crazy For Cupcakes stamp set - very versatile and just plain good fun!

The flip/swing card template is one I got via Google and adapted it for our paper measurements, but basically it is 16.8cm x 14.8cm in total size. The cutting is 3.5cm in from the edges and the two centre score lines are 6.8cm from each side - if it doesn't make sense I can draw out a sketch of the template. The centre chocolate chip pieces are 9.2cm x 7.3cm in size and the whisper white pieces are 8.6cm x 6.7cm. One side looks like this, although the glitter didn't turn out very well on the photograph that is on the balloon.

This is the other side (not finished, but photographed for blog purposes as I still need to add the pink party whistle stamps to the pink surround base piece). Once you have the base sorted out it really is a quick card to make up and flipping it really is very therapeutic!

Gingerbread Milk Carton

Greetings readers, whilst blog surfing I came across a couple of clever girls who had made up the milk carton die into a cute little gingerbread house (thanks for the inspiration Jackie T. & Kay S.) so I had a play with the new trim border punch and made this cute little ornament up to hang on the tree! The milk carton die makes it really quick and simple to make these up and as I am a hoarder and keep the left over stamped shapes I have done from previous projects it went together really quickly. I was also very pleased that the new circle punch in the Itty Bitty Shapes trio perfectly cuts out the circle lolly (sweet/candy) from the Something Sweet stamp set - so it made cutting those really quick!

Stamps: Something Sweet, Cottage Wall, Crazy for Cupcakes

Another Crazy For Cupcakes card!

Well I have seen SO many awning shop type cards on the blogs of late - I finally decided to jump on the bandwagon and make one of my own! I loved this one here on fellow Australian  demonstrators site Andrea and as I had the Crazy For Cupcakes stamp set and Sweet Always DSP out for the Crazy For Cupcakes class I had teaching those were what I used - ohh plus lots of glitter - that class uses LOTS of Dazzling Diamond glitter, we all came away quite sparkley that afternoon! I made two versions of this card - one with the Dazzling Diamonds glitter and then a second with the light pink chunky sprinkles glitter (that was in the inventory clearance sale back in January). I preferred the one with the chunky glitter as it gave it more dimension, I'm also trying to decide if I like the happy birthday shop sign above the awning or if it needs to be layered up again - I really can't wait to see if we get the SU XL modern label punch in the new catalogue as that would be perfect to layer up the window word punch (my wish list is VERY long by the way)......ohh and it's not the card that was made crooked - that's my photography!

The awning was sponged along the edge and underneath held up with Stampin' Dimensionals to give a more 3D appearance to the shop front, the happy birthday was raised up again to give more dimension as well. The chunky glitter I stuck on with Crystal Effects - I figured as the size of the glitter was so much bigger than the Dazzling Diamonds, it would hold on better and give a more cupcake frosted 3D appearance if I used the Crystal Effects.

Calorie Free Cake!

I wanted to make a little token gift for one of my son's favourite carers at daycare as it was her birthday on Friday, always a challenge as you want to give them something that says I care, but not something that will clutter! Anyway I remember seeing a slice of cake made from card stock years ago - so I went hunting for the template - you have to love that about Google - don't you?? Anyway long story short my search came up with lots of choices, but in the end I settled on this one from Victorine Originals  (another great website for templates to print out is Mirkwood which I also has a cake slice box, so if you wanted to have a go at making something similar just have a Google first to see what's out there) so I printed it out and went to work......this was the result - what do you think? . I made up a little bag of chocolate sultanas to pop inside with a little gift tag & I'm not sure who was happier this morning - myself that a mental image came out almost identical in reality, my son as he got to give his carer a lovely present or the carer at the gift of chocolate!!!

I printed out the template onto normal printer paper and then cut and traced it onto the chocolate chip card stock. The Dazzling Diamonds glitter I applied with Crystal Effects over some of the swirls on the icing part of the cake, my personal preference is for Crystal Effects over the 2-way glue for this type of project as unlike a card, this is more likely to be handled more and thus the glitter needs to be stuck on better - if that makes sense? I sponged the edge of each flower petal, the greeting oval and the edge of the pink icing to add a bit more dimension.

Crazy For Cupcakes challenge card

Just a quick post to share with you a card I made a few days ago for the ESAD Stampin' Up! Demonstrators site, week 16 challenge sketch. Basically they post a sketch as per below:

and then we take this sketch and design a card to fit the sketch layout. While I have been making a few cards with the Crazy For Cupcakes stamp set recently so as it was on the top of my stamp set pile, I used that (such a technical designer aren't !!) and came up with this simple card:

You can't tell from my very average photography, but the scallop oval piece is raised on Stampin' Dimensionals, the chocolate chip cardstock has a watermark on it of the party streamer in Versamark & the cupcake icing is all overlaid with Dazzling Diamonds glitter. The oval scallop punch from the Spring 2009 mini catalogue is still available to order #114889 AUD$30.95.
